Snowball 2014 : Worth the Wait

After what seemed like the longest wait EVER, the Snowball Team has finally released the line-up and location of this year's festivities. April 4-6th in Denver, CO at Sports Authority Field at Mile High Stadium, Snowball 2014 has got one hell of a lineup!  I was super worried that the 4th year festy would not be able to happen this year, after the operation moved once already from their original location in Avon, CO. Last year, the festival took place in Winter Park, CO, and seemed to do well. Many out of towners are complaining that moving the party from a ski resort to the city is taking away from the original idea and the main reason people went to the party was the added bonus of being able to get some runs in on the hill before the BIG RAGER. I admit, the mix of snowboarding and music is fucking awesome; but as a Colorado kid, I feel like the lineup is dope enough to give it a chance. Decadence NYE: Denver, CO Does it AGAIN!

The homies at Global Dance Music DEFY knows how to throw a party. This is year three of the epic NYE celebration Decadence held in downtown Denver at the Colorado Convention Center. This year the party has been extended to a 2 day MASSIVE, and they are not fucking around on the lineup. BASSNECTAR and PRETTY LIGHTS?!?! PLUS DAMN NEAR THE WHOLE PLM CREW?? PLUS BEATS ANTIQUE, LATE NIGHT RADIO, DATSIK, KEYS N KRATES, AND 12TH PLANET??? HELL YES, I bought my tickets two months ago as soon as I heard! I'm a dirty bass head, but my roots are defy in trance and house music; and with Tiesto, Dada Life, Above and Beyond, and BT in the Global Dance Arena, both nights will be tough picks on which arena to stay in. I do have to say, I was a little apprehensive about going back to Decadence after I went the first year only to stand in line for nearly two hours to get in. I missed Feed Me and was SUPER sour about it, but I'm hoping to chalk that experience up to first time in a new venue with 10,000 rave rats running around. Show Reviews: Nightmares on Wax | Marvel Years w/ Jk Soul, Krooked Drivers and More

How was my week long Denver trip over Thanksgiving break, you ask? So fucking awesome, I decided to move there :) I can't lie, its been a long time coming. I always have such a great time and coming back to Junction is always so hard. Most everything has fallen into place at once, so I have finally decided jump in with both feet and head out there to chase the future.

Nightmares on Wax

The awesomeness started at the VERY special E-Tuesday at Cervantes presented by Sub.Mission. It was a dual venue show between the Masterpiece and The Otherside. It was the Nightmares on Wax debut in Colorado, and the vibes were flowing in the Ballroom for sure. He jumped around his whole catalog and touched on some of the finest tracks in his arsenal, and even played a couple of my favorite jams :) If you still haven't heard of this cat, educate yourself right meow!!

kLL sMTH

I caught up with another favorite artist, kLL sMTH, in The Otherside for the E-Tuesday weekly show. Something about his brand of gooey glitchy goodness that gives me the jitters!! I've been following him for a minute too. Here's an interview I did with him a few months back before the 710 Cup in Denver this summer.

The next night back at Cervantes Otherside was by far, the most fun I had all week!! Another solid event hosted by Mikey Thunder, the lineup was unreal. Marvel Years has been on my watchlist for a hot minute: he's young, but talented as fuck! You guys know I'm kinda obsessed with Krooked Drivers, so let me remind you: I found out about KD at Sonic Bloom Festival earlier this year after they were introduced during Mikey Thunder's set in his infamous "15 Minutes of Fame" spot where he showcases his new favorite up-n-comers. This night was no different. This time around, the artist DELUXE played the 15 minute spot, and KILLED it, so keep an eye on this cat :) I also did a pre-show artist interview with Mr. Bugatti who opened the night, and coincidentally, used to go to school in Grand Junction! He knew a slew of the same peeps as I do! Small Fucking World we live in :) And I gotta give Mad Props to Mikey Thunder, he brought over JK Soul all the way from Slovenia, and dude was a beast!! His set reminded me of the first time I saw Gramatik play: soulful, soothing, sexy smoothness.

I am thankful for DENVER: THE MECCA

It's no secret; Denver, CO straight up murks the bass music game. I live in Grand Junction, CO and am doing everything in my power to bring the fun to the valley, but it's hard work and fuckin A expensive. Sooo, five or six times a year, I treat myself to a week long Denver trip, laden with more shows than I can handle. Thanksgiving week will be no different. Time to spend some quality time with my friends and family, hitting bass shows and at many different venues as I can. SUPER STOKED that this year has a STACKED lineup for me. The festivities start on Tuesday night 11/26/13 at Cervantes Masterpiece for Nightmares on Wax featuring JK Soul, Mikey Thunder, and CurlyOnE thanks to the Sub.Mission crew for another solid E-Tuesday. I'm covering the event so you KNOW I'll be getting some dope video for you all to vibe on. Oh say what? You never heard of these cats? Well that just won't do, familiarize yoself :)

Wednesday (11/27/13) its back to Cervantes, this time on The Other Side for Marvel Years with Krooked Drivers, JK Soul, Lidsky, and Mr. Bugatti hosted by Mikey Thunder. Marvel Years aka Cory Wythe is an east coast producer from Vermont that has been crushing the game with his soulful glitchy sample based tunes and getting LOTS of love from the Colorado scene, thanks in a big way to miss Bronzy Wizzle, the owner of The Daily Steeze, another prominent Denver music blog. Ya'll know I've been on the Krooked tip for a minute, and it's no secret that having the PLM family man Mikey Thunder in their corner has done nothing but great things for them. SOOO JAZZED on their new EP dropping today on Gravitas Recordings, shit is FIRE!! I saw them open for Artifakts, Late Night Radio, as well as Marvel Years earlier this year at Cervantes before the two day Pretty Lights run @ Red Rocks. Never seen Lidsky or Mr. Bugatti live, but their tunes or dope and if they are sick enough to share a bill put together by Mikey Thunder, I'm sure it's gonna be epic. Check out their music!!

And Thanksgiving Night: Porter Robinson @ Beta for NRG Thursdays. This is going to be a very special show for me, as I have NEVER been to the world renowned nightclub Beta Denver. Mostly because I'm nearly 30 years old and going to clubs chalk full of 18 year olds hasn't been my thing for a grip, but for Porter, I think I can make an exception :) He's been one of my favorite mainstream electro house producers for a while now, and to hear him play "Say My Name" on a primed Funktion 1 sound system should be a real treat!

Pretty Lights: I would tattoo that shit on my face!

Its true. I love Pretty Lights. He's my favorite producer of all time. I love his music, his light shows, his record label, his business model, process, you name it, I love it. His brand new album, A Color Map of the Sun, dropped today. And its fucking awesome. He's had the preview of the album up on his soundcloud account for a while and I tried my best not to listen to it and wait until I could hear it on vinyl first, but today I broke down. I'm not sorry, only to myself for not breaking down earlier! I won't paraphrase the AMAZING documentary I watched made by Derek and his creative director/girlfriend Krystle Blackburn, but when you get some spare time, WATCH IT. It's truly amazing what he has put together. He worked with hundreds of different instruments and  musicians to create his very own samples pack pressed to vinyl. Genius.Did I mention that it's all recorded in ANALOG? Derek is a BEAST!!!

Being the obsessive nut that I am about Pretty Lights, I've seen most of the interviews he's done, this one here from the Steve Renman Show is one of the classiest, most informative interviews I've seen, def worth a watch if you love PL like I do. The 710 Cup Denver...Yummy

In the last ten years Denver has become a MECCA for marijuana advocates. What started with a few select Medical Marijuana Centers, RED cards, and a lengthy interview/doctor approval process; has now transformed in a hazy city with more pot dispensaries in the city than McDonalds and Starbucks combined. A midst the hype of the legalization, a new form of smoking the centuries old plant has also emerged. It's called "dabbing", and if you haven't heard about it, you are either living under a rock or in complete denial. What the hell is dabbing, you ask? In short, it's smoking the pure THC in oil or wax form that is extracted from the plant via butane(BHO). This July, the new movement of the pot culture is gracing the Wright Group Events Center in downtown Denver with a new kind of Cannabis Cup.

    The 710 Cup is a competition, hosted by Grassroots California, Hitman Glass, and WeedMaps.com, in search of the best THC concentrates with several categories including wax, shatter, edibles, and more.     I'm so excited about the lineup for the Cup! A LOT of homies on it, and quite a few peeps that have been on my list to see for a while! I'm mostly jazzed for M!NT, Fresh2Death, Krooked Drivers, Freddy Todd, OG Status, and all the Mile High Sound Movement cats like Cloud D, kLL sMTH, Late Night Radio, Unlimited Gravity, and Kruza Kid. I saw a few of them at Sonic Bloom, but unfortunately missed several of their sets, so I'm WAYYY stoked for a second chance so soon :) Here's a playlist I put together with a few tracks from each of my favorites on the lineup.
